Bolon x Martino Gamper / Capsule Plaza / April 20–26
For Milan Design Week 2026, we welcome you to BOLON STUDIO, a dedicated space for creative practice, where we are honoured to present an artistic collaboration with Martino Gamper.
In the exhibition RIQUADRO, he explores the idea that functional design and conceptual art are not opposing disciplines, but intertwined practices. In this collaboration, it means creating something that operates fully as a product, durable, manufacturable, usable, while simultaneously existing as a conceptual statement.
Martino has a multi-disciplinary education. He began as an apprentice for a furniture maker before studying sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Later, He completed an MA at the Royal College of Art in London. This blend of craft sensitivity and artistic inquiry laid the foundation for a lifelong fusion of thinking and doing, and a belief that objects are not only functional but also carriers of ideas, stories, and spatial experience.
In creating RIQUADRO, Martino did not start by questioning whether it should be art or design, but rather how it could exist meaningfully within a space. Flooring is one of the largest surfaces in any interior, yet it often goes unnoticed. With RIQUADRO, he shifts that hierarchy—bringing the floor into focus as a field of attention while preserving its essential function.
These artworks are not meant to remain distant or untouchable. We invite you to participate – to touch, walk on, and experience the material. In this continuous interaction between object and user, design becomes lived art, and art becomes part of daily ritual. That continuity between idea and function is where art truly exists.
