Historic The Landmark Nicosia reopened in December 2025, following a complete transformation in which Bolon flooring lays the foundation for world-class hospitality in the Cypriot capital.
When you’re a true icon, entering a new era means honouring
the past while daring to envision the future. This was the case
when The Landmark Nicosia in Cyprus was reimagined as part
of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, transforming its historic
character into a contemporary destination while preserving its
connection to the island’s past. Originally designed by Raglan
Squire and operating as the island’s first Hilton hotel, it
became closely associated with Cyprus’ independence in 1960.
“The building’s architectural character was an important
reference throughout the renovation, including preserving the
existing façade with its distinctive terrazzo elements and
translating the geometric language and materiality of the
original façade into the interior design. We reinterpreted these
elements through a contemporary lens, creating a subtle
continuity between the building’s heritage and its new
identity,” says Eraclis Papachristou, founder of Eraclis
Papachristou Architects.
To create harmony between every element, Eraclis
Papachristou worked with layers to build a cohesive interior,
allowing each element to contribute to the whole while still
giving the space a distinct character.
