Bolon during Berlin Art Week Two Locations, two different contexts

This September, Bolon comes to Berlin with two distinct presentations across the city. During Berlin Art Week, visitors can experience our materials in two very different contexts – as part of a large-scale group exhibition The Overview Effect at THE FOUNDRY by Bocci and through a new presentation at our Berlin showroom. Together, the two locations offer different perspectives on material, craft and design, from an artistic interpretation of Bolon’s woven flooring to a fragment of our recent collaboration with designer Martino Gamper

THE OVERVIEW EFFECT I THE FOUNDRY BY BOCCI

From 5–13 September, Bolon is part of The Overview Effect, a group exhibition at THE FOUNDRY by Bocci, curated by Anna Carnick.

Taking its name from the cognitive shift astronauts describe when viewing Earth from space, the exhibition brings together an international group of designers and artists exploring our relationship with the world around us – and ideas of interconnectedness, materiality and perspective.

For the exhibition, Berlin-based design duo Meyers & Fügmann have created The Global Mélange: Interwoven Latitudes, a woven installation commissioned by Bolon.

Working with Bolon materials, including raw material and offcuts from our production, the designers approach weaving on a different scale. Materials usually associated with flooring are taken out of their familiar context and transformed into a tactile work that explores connections between material, making and place.

The installation is presented alongside Bolon flooring, creating a dialogue between the material as a functional architectural surface and as a medium for artistic experimentation.

RIQUADRO BY MARTINO GAMPER I CURRENTS.BERLIN

From 10–12 September, as part of Currents.Berlin, visitors are invited to discover a fragment of RIQUADRO by Martino Gamper, first presented during Milan Design Week earlier this year. For RIQUADRO, Martino Gamper explored Bolon flooring beyond its conventional application, using colour, pattern and composition to rethink the floor as an active part of an interior.

Two works from the Milan presentation now make their way to Berlin, where they are presented in a new setting in our showroom on Linienstraße.

During the evenings of Thursday and Friday from 18:00, we invite visitors to stop by for a glass of Bolon bubbles, discover the installation and meet the Bolon team.
